My intention for this series was to explore the details and textures of different fabrics, nature and other objects. I attempted to create an intimate experience with the viewer and the photographs to develop a personal connection with each photograph. There were many themes which I endeavored to carry out throughout the series. One theme was raindrops and how that reflected texture on plants, the ground and an umbrella. Another theme was how nature and the "man-made world" interacted together. Lastly, I wanted to take different fabrics and take them out of their element, as to suggest they were an atypical setting. My advice for someone doing this project would be to create a theme and have it remain constant throughout all of your pictures to unify your photographs together.
Katherine, I love how in your book you focused on detail. Your photos are abstract but most of them are still recognizable as certain objects, which I find really intriguing. I really liked that you put a collage of all your photos on the back cover, because it was a unique idea and it really pulls together your photos as a series.
ReplyDeleteYou were extremely successful in creating an abstraction of everyday life by taking capturing the details of mundane objects. Although I understand that your series is unified by the focus on texture and detail, but I don't think they have much in common in terms of composition. All the images, nonetheless are stunning when taken individually.
ReplyDeleteKatherine, great job. All of your photos have a similar aperture and proximity, making them all seem associated. Very good job, interesting photos.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are amazing, katherine! They look so professional, and I think your lighting and composition allowed you to achieve this successfully. All of your photos work extremely well together as a series. I love your theme of texture, and I think you should keep pursuing it because you really have an eye for interesting shots. Well done!
